What is Rosehip Oil?

Rosehip Oil is a nourishing plant oil extracted from either the Rosehip fruit or seeds from particular rose bushes. Rosehips are usually red or orange in colour, reminiscent of berries, Crab Apples or Pomegranates. They appear after the Rose flower or blossom has fallen away, and some types are even edible.1

Rosehip Oil properties

Essential fatty acids

Rosehip Oil contains a high concentration of essential fatty acids, or Omegas, including Oleic, Linoleic and Linolenic. These fatty acids support the skin's natural regeneration process, encouraging healthy skin cell turnover for an improved skin texture plump, smooth and taut. Our skin cells love Omega 6 for targeting scar tissue, making Rosehip Oil ideal for delivering a burst of protection to damaged skin.2

Vitamin C

Rosehip is also naturally rich in Vitamin C - actually, Rosehip was used during World War II to help combat illness (in place of fruits such as Oranges which were unavailable at the time). Rosehip is actually known for having almost 60 times the levels of Vitamin C than other citrus fruit! Vitamin C is can target free radical damage and premature ageing as well as pigmentation, and promoting healthy skin cell turnover for bright and even skin tone.2

Vitamin A

Vitamin A, also known as Retinol, is known for its ability to help fight those signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin A is a powerful anti-ageing ingredient, helping to form and maintain healthy skin cells. In fact, it may be too potent an ingredient in natural skincare for hypersensitive skin types. Rosehip Oil is actually naturally rich in Vitamin A in the form of Beta-Carotene, which is ideal for sensitive skin types as it is easily absorbed and works as a gentle antioxidant to help brighten skin tone and help protect skin from environmental damage.2

Lycopene

Lycopene is a Carotenoid compound that is naturally found in red fruits and vegetables like Tomatoes, Beetroot, Pomegranate and Rosehip. It's actually an antioxidant packed with powerful benefits, working to protect the skin from environmental damage and help repair skin. It's also what gives Rosehip Oil its vibrant orange colour!2

Rosehip Oil uses

One of my favourite Rosehip Oil benefits is that it can actually be used all over the body for so many different purposes. Being a natural anti-inflammatory, Rosehip Oil could be perfect for all skin types. Ideal for hydrating, smoothing, firming and plumping up the skin, Rosehip Oil can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, sagging and sunspots. Itโ€™s also known for its ability to target hyperpigmentation and scarring.

How to use Rosehip Oil

To use Rosehip Oil, mix a few drops in the palm of your hand and massage onto your face and body as desired. Rosehip Oil can also be used as nourishing hair oil and on cuticles to promote strong nails. You can use Rosehip Oil at any time of the day, though we recommend using it both morning and night for best results.
