There is not much more calming to me than having a hot cup of tea when I am feeling stressed and green tea has always been one of my favourite choices, especially if I'm trying to stay away from coffee. But did you know that not all green teas are the same? Matcha is actually a special kind of natural tea which practically doubles as a superfood because of its amazing nutritional properties. In fact, one cup of Matcha is said to be as powerful as ten cups of regular green tea! This incredible tea not only makes a delicious drink but is also a wonderful ingredient in natural skin care, working to brighten skin tone.

What is Matcha green tea?

Matcha is a type of green tea made from tea leaves which are left in the shade for the last few weeks before harvesting, increasing the theanine and caffeine content.1 The antioxidant-rich leaves are then ground into a fine powder with a rich green colour, retaining all of the natural nutrients in concentrated form. Unlike regular green tea leaves which are infused in water then discarded, Matcha green tea allows the whole leaves to be consumed. This versatile powder can be combined with hot water or your choice of milk to make delicious, nutrient-rich tea or added to smoothies, yoghurt, ice cream and baking. Matcha has a beautiful earthy flavour but can also be used in natural skin care thanks to its antioxidant-rich properties, perfect for brightening up dull and dehydrated skin.
