Have you ever wanted to know more about homeopathy? This ancient holistic theory has been used for centuries, around the globe. In current day, this theory is still used by health professionals, including our own Nourished Life Naturopath, Melanie Ruckley! To learn more about homeopathy, I teamed up with Mel to answer all of your most frequently asked questions!

What is Homeopathy?

The principle of homeopathy comes from the ancient belief that substances which contribute to a healthy individual can be used to treat a sick individual. Founded in the 18th century, modern day Homeopathy was introduced by German physician, Dr Samuel Hahnemann.

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine based on the theory of treating ’like with like’. It believes that highly diluted preparations can stimulate the body’s healing response. The word Homeopathy itself is derived from the Greek word ’homoios’ which means similar and ’pathos’ which means suffering. Practicing homeopaths treat individuals with these diluted preparations to strengthen the body’s ability to heal itself. To prescribe an individual treatment, homeopaths first assess all of your presenting symptoms. This include physical, mental and emotional symptoms! The next step is to identify the best remedy to address each issue. Homeopathy aims to treat the whole person so to do this, homeopaths also take into account a person’s lifestyle, personality and hereditary factors as well as their history of disease.

Where is Homeopathy practiced

Homeopathy is still used today, all around the world. It’s particularly popular in Germany where many people still use homeopaths as their first call whenever they’re sick! This is because homeopathic treatments approach common health ailments in the safest way possible.

Which Homeopathy treatments does Mel recommend?

Our Naturopath Mel uses Homeopathy in her practice and believes that when the right remedy is found, the results are nothing short of amazing! Some common health complaints that are very responsive to the home prescribing of homeopathic remedies include teething (Chamomilla), sprains and bruising (Arnica), fevers (Belladonna), insect bites (Apis, Ledum) and colds and flus.
