Whenever the Paleo diet is brought up in conversation, there’s no denying it can raise some pretty controversial opinions! Often labelled as another fad diet, not many realise it can also be a lifestyle choice. With so much information out there it can be hard to know where to begin. So if you’ve ever thought about trying the Paleo diet or are just curious as to what it’s all about, then this blog post is perfect for you!

What does eating Paleo mean?

The Paleo diet is based on the core principles of a hunter-gatherer lifestyle, combined with modern scientific research. It’s not about living like a caveman but rather understanding our genetic makeup and how our bodies best consume food. No spears or caves required! The science behinds the Paleo lifestyle has found that eating whole, unprocessed foods is the most beneficial for our health.

What can you eat on the Paleo diet?

The Paleo diet focuses on lean proteins, fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. Lean protein from grass-fed meats and seafood keeps you satisfied between meals and supports strong bones and a healthy immune system. Fruits and vegetables also make up a large part of the Paleo diet as they are rich in antioxidants and vitamins that have been proven to decrease the likelihood of developing degenerative diseases. Healthy fats from foods like avocados, nuts and olive oil are also permitted.

What can’t you eat on a Paleo diet?

If you’re looking to start living the Paleo lifestyle there are a few things you need to avoid. This includes anything processed or artificial, soft drinks and partially hydrogenated oils. Also excluded are grains, dairy, potatoes and legumes. Meaning you need to stay far, far away from any junk or fast foods. Just remember, they didn’t have a McDonald’s in the caveman era!

What are the health benefits of the paleo diet?

The Paleo diet has a long list of health benefits ranging from sustainable weight loss to a lowered risk of heart disease and improved sleep. Some other benefits found from adapting to a Paleo lifestyle include:
· Increased protein intake
· Lower carbohydrate intake
· Higher fiber intake
· Moderate to higher healthy fat intake
· Reduced trans fats and polyunsaturated fat intake
· Increased potassium intake
· Lower sodium intake
· Reduced bloating

Will I need to take dietary supplements?

There are many Paleo supplements on the market but Amazonia’s supplements are some of my favourites! Their Raw Fermented Paleo Protein is a sworn favourite of many athletes and nutritionists. The Amazonia Raw Fermented Paleo Protein is certified organic and made with paleo superfoods like spirulina, chia, quinoa and Peruvian sacha inchi. With high levels of amino acids, it helps support muscle development, body function and is easily digested by the body. This paleo protein is completely free from artificial ingredients and has a delicious creamy taste that is sugar free and low in carbs!
