How to Use Sea Salt Spray for Hair

A great sea salt spray really makes it so easy to create natural looking, textured beachy waves all year round- no dip in the ocean necessary!

Although some sea salt sprays can be applied to wet or dry hair, we recommend working with damp hair to ensure the hair is as malleable as possible- this will keep your style in place for longer.

Beginning with damp hair, spritz your sea salt spray through the lengths of your hair. The more spray, the more texture! If you want to create volume and lift at the crown of your head then spray some sea salt in and around your part, but if you prefer minimal height and more texture around the lengths, only apply the spray from ears to tips.

Once you’ve applied the spray, use your hands to scrunch your hair and add texture. From here, you can allow the hair to air dry or blast it with a hairdryer (the latter will give you more volume). To create more texture and for less ’piecey" waves, take a few strands of hair between your fingers and give them a little rub to separate them. We like doing this around the face to really frame it and give the hair a slightly windswept look. To add more definition to your waves, use a curling iron once the hair is completely dry, then give the waves a little shake with your fingers for a lived-in, undone look.

The Best Sea Salt Sprays for Beautiful, Beachy Hair

To create natural, tousled waves with ease, we love the Noosa Basics Sea Spray. This natural spray is crafted in sunny Noosa, where beautiful beachy hair is in abundance, and has been formulated to give the hair a naturally bouncy, tousled look. What we love about the Noosa Basics Sea Spray is that is combines sea salt with Aloe Vera and Argan Oil, so it works to condition the hair and soothe the scalp while giving the hair a beautiful, beachy texture.

We also love Captain Blankenship’s range of sea salt sprays! The Captain Blankenship salt sprays can be used on wet or dry hair, and their entire range of haircare products are certified cruelty free and crafted without synthetic preservatives, parabens and sulphates.

To create beachy waves with ease, we use the Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Spray. When we want to add a little something extra to the finish of our style, we opt for one of the brand’s shimmering options- either the Rose Gold Sunset Sea Salt Shimmer Spray or Golden Waves Sea Salt Shimmer Spray, both of which get their shimmering properties naturally formed and sustainably sourced mica pigments. All of the Captain Blankenship Sea Salt Sprays also contain organic aloe vera to add moisture to the hair, organic sea kelp extract to nourish the hair and scalp, and (of course) sea salt for texture and hold.
