What is a period or menstrual cup?
A period cup is a reusable alternative to tampons or pads, made from flexible silicone that collects your blood instead of absorbing it. It’s small, easy-to-use and free from pesticides and other nasties. Menstrual cups are washable and reusable meaning they can be used over and over again, every month. This makes them a cost effective & super eco-friendly alternative to disposable period care products.

Why switch to a period cup?

1. It’s sustainable & better for the environment
This is one of the main reasons people make the switch! A single period cup can be used and used (and reused and reused) for up to 3-5 years. Consider how many tampons and pads you throw away each year. If all women used a menstrual cup, we would be saving an estimated 10,000 feminine hygiene products from entering our waterways and landfill.

2. You don’t have to buy single use pads or tampons again
Say goodbye to surprise periods when your bathroom cabinet is empty. Plus, single-use feminine hygiene products are so expensive. Using a menstrual cup can save you roughly $4000 over your lifetime! Think of all the things you could buy with those savings!

3. It’s better for your body & your health
Mainstream tampons and pads may contain harmful substances such as chlorine (used for bleaching) or fragrances, but a menstrual cup doesn’t contain anything but safe, medical grade silicone. That’s all. (Psst"¦we sell Certified Organic tampons that are totally free from perfumes, chemicals, pesticides, bleach and genetically modified cotton).

4. High capacity for heavy flows or sport enthusiasts
Unlike pads and tampons, which can sometimes provide limited options in the face of a heavy period, period cups are fab for people with heavier flows. They can be worn for up to 8 hours, and are designed to be leak-free so you can go about your day with peace of mind! They can even be worn during exercise or yoga so it’s a win-win situation.

And how do you ●actually● use a menstrual cup?
It’s actually super easy & simple. You’ll receive detailed instructions with how to insert your menstrual cup when you receive the product and it’s surprisingly simple! First, you wash your hands thoroughly (or insert it in the shower!).. Next, flatten your cup then fold it over itself into a 'C' shape, then hold it closed in that shape. Find a comfortable position (this may be sitting, squatting, or standing with one leg raised), and insert the cup upwards into your vagina, angling the cup towards the base of your spine. Check that the cup has opened, as this will create a "seal" to prevent any leaking, then wash your hands. Done!

Anything else you need to know?

● Get the right size
Sizing is everything. You want to find one that isn’t too big or too small & fits your body just right so everything stays incredibly comfortable. Do some research to figure out which will be best for you based on your age and if you’ve given birth or not.

● Find the right one for you
Not all period cups are made the same. Different brands use various shapes and materials. You can find one for beginners, or for a heavier flow. There’s even a menstrual cup for someone with a low cervix or short vaginal canal!
