What causes our skin to be dry?
Did you know your dry skin could be hereditary? There are both internal and external factors that can cause dry skin! If you have a history of dry skin in your family, then your risk of having a similar skin type may be higher. However with just a few simple changes, your dry skin can get under control! Some of the most common causes of dry skin are using the wrong cleanser and moisturiser, low humidity and cold temperatures. Dry skin can also be made worse by some prescribed medications, so consult with your healthcare professional if you think this may be the case!
How do I know if I have dry skin?
Some easy ways to identify the texture of your skin is noticing how it reacts after getting out of the shower. Does your skin feel tight before you moisturise? Do you have noticeable fine lines or creases or notice your skin looks dull and flaky ? Then you might have dry skin.
How can we treat dry skin?
Some quick fixes include taking showers that aren’t too steamy, using cleansers that don’t strip the skin, adding a hydrating serum to your daily skin care routine)and increasing the humidity in your home during the winter months.
Another important step to treating dry skin is to regularly exfoliate! Using a gentle facial exfoliant weekly also helps to remove any dead skin cell buildup that causes dry, flaking skin.
Which products do we love for dry skin?
If your skin has a tendency to be dry, it’s important to choose a natural cleanser with a milky or balm consistency that won’t strip the skin of its natural oils.
Skin Juice Smudge Budge Face & Eye Cleansing Balm
This 5 Star rated cleanser from Skin Juice is a very gentle yet thorough balm style cleanser which is massaged into the face and then removed with a warm damp wash cloth or muslin. Being a balm it cannot strip the skin of its natural sebum which makes it suited to complexions which tend to be dry. It is especially rich in antioxidants and so nourishes the skin whilst it removes every trace of make up and helps produce a healthy youthful glow.
Lavera 2-in-1 Cleansing Milk
This milky cleanser from Lavera contains nourishing ingredients like Jojoba Oil and organic Shea Butter, which moisturise the skin to leave it looking supple and soft. It’s even gentle enough to use around the eyes when removing makeup!

Once you have cleansed your face with a moisturising cleanser, the next step is to apply a facial oil that helps maintain the balance of your skin’s natural oils.
