During pregnancy and even during growth spurts, it’s not uncommon to develop stretch marks. In the lead up to childbirth there is already so much to think about, without stretch marks becoming an added worry! That’s why it’s so important from the early stages to take preventative measures. On the mainstream market there are many body oils that claim to reduce stretch marks, but are actually filled with harmful chemicals, chemicals that shouldn’t be applied to anyone’s body, let alone someone who is pregnant! That’s why I love and recommend Weleda’s Stretch Mark Massage Oil! It’s natural, effective and ultra nourishing!

What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks occur during pregnancy as the body puts on weight and the stomach expands at a more rapid rate than it’s used to. Stretch marks are usually found on the stomach, thighs, breasts and bottom. Pregnancy also affects the body’s hormones and softens the fibres in the skin, which leaves skin more prone to developing stretch marks.1 It’s also believed that you’re more likely to develop stretch marks if you are a young mum, if you’re having multiple babies at once, if you put on significant weight during pregnancy or if other family members developed stretch marks.1

What can Weleda’s stretch mark massage oil do to help?

Weleda’s stretch mark massage oil can help to soothe and calm sensitive skin during pregnancy, promoting a natural balance. Made with all natural ingredients that are safe to use while pregnant, this oil can help in the reduction of stretch marks on the tummy, thighs and buttocks. It can also be applied to the face to soothe the skin.

A dermatological study showed that after 4 months of use, 77% of participants saw increased smoothness in the skin, while 17% saw an increase in the elasticity of the skin!2

Which ingredients in this oil work to reduce stretch marks?

Arnica: Arnica is extracted from a golden flower and contains silicic acid, cartonoids and many essential oils. This ingredient warms the body and helps to soothe tired and tight muscles.2

Wheat Germ: Wheat Germ Oil is extracted from the Wheat plant and contains a high level of Vitamin E. It’s actually highly compatible to our skin’s formulation, so is able to connect to our tissue to soothe and refine the skin’s texture.2

Jojoba: Jojoba is actually the most similar oil to that produced by our own skin. This means it can penetrate the skin at a deeper level to provide intense hydration!3

Sweet Almond: This mildly gentle ingredient is really easily absorbed into the skin and contains a high amount of essential fatty acids. These fatty acids work to ensure the skin doesn’t dry out and actually improves the barrier function of the skin to help keep it smooth.2

This blend of essential oils also includes geranium, ideal for minor pain from tense muscles!
