What causes stretch marks?
Stretch marks may form as a result of pregnancy or changes in body weight or shape. During pregnancy, as the belly expands the skin of course has to stretch with it, often causing stretch marks which appear as streaky, scar-like lines and areas. They're also common in adolescents whose bodies are rapidly growing and changing. Stretch marks might start out as red or pink in appearance due to an inflammatory response to tissue expansion, then turn white or silver as a result of becoming scar tissue.1
What causes scarring?
Scarring occurs when the skin is damaged by trauma such as an injury, burn, surgical procedures such as a C-Section, or a skin condition like acne. Even after the body has healed and repaired damaged skin after trauma, a visible scar may remain. It might naturally fade over time or remain visible, but everyone's skin heals differently. Scarring can cause self-consciousness about unsightly marks on the face or body, and as we age, it can become harder for our bodies to repair quickly as our skin naturally slows down production of collagen, the protein needed to create plump and firm skin.
Benefits of natural stretch mark and scar treatments
Many mainstream stretch mark products can contain mineral oils from petroleum sources. Natural stretch mark and scar treatments instead make use of deeply nourishing and restorative herbal and plant based ingredients to provide nutrient rich support for the skin. Applying extra moisture daily can help to speed up the body's natural processes by delivering a boost of replenishing hydration which the body might struggle to produce itself.
