What is Glamping?
’Glamping’, or glamourous camping, combines the best of camping and experiencing nature with the luxuries most of us just don’t want to give up even for a night, like a king size bed and running water! Based in the beautiful Jervis Bay area on the South Coast of New South Wales, Paperbark Camp combines luxury with environmental friendliness to create a unique, extra luxurious glamping getaway experience. This sustainably minded eco-lodge offers the opportunity to escape from the busy hustle and bustle of everyday life and stay in tents built up off the ground - just like having your very own treehouse!
What is special about Paperbark Camp?
Paperbark Camp was established in 1998 by Irena and Jeremy Hutchings and was inspired by the tent style accommodation on African Safaris! Determined to bring this style of accommodation to Australia, Irena and Jeremy gave up corporate work in Sydney and relocated their family to the South Coast. The location they settled on, in beautiful Jervis Bay, offers privacy and serenity in quiet, untouched bushland on a creek frontage, just a few minutes’ drive from the beach. Paperbark Camp’s approach to sustainability began with a passion for maintaining and preserving the natural environment while enjoying all it has to offer. The retreat was established in line with ecologically minded tourism, focusing on minimising environmental impact and developing knowledge of local land. Some of Paperbark’s environmentally friendly features include solar power, natural air ventilation, no land clearing, use of recycled and natural products, and careful maintenance of the native flora and wildlife. Praised for its eco-conscious ideals, the secluded coastal retreat has been given Advanced Eco Accreditation from Ecotourism Australia, and the accommodation and attached restaurant are run with love and passion by the Hutchings family and local staff. We love the ethos behind this environmentally-minded business!

Paperbark Camp offers a romantic escape for two people in the heart of the pristine Jervis Bay bushland. Built above ground on a timber platform surrounded by trees, each tent features a luxurious king or queen size bed with soft bamboo cotton linen, solar powered lighting, polished hardwood flooring, outdoor deck, and a private, open-air ensuite with shower and free-standing bath. This decadent accommodation also includes dinner and breakfast at the Gunyah Restaurant, offering gourmet seasonal dishes made with local produce.
