The study found that binchotan charcoal has a very high absorption capacity, allowing it to strongly absorb gases in the air including ethylene, acetic acid vapour and hydrogen. Due to its natural filtration properties, many countries are now looking to use binchotan charcoal to replace coke and coal in the manufacturing of aluminium and steel. According to the study, it’s believed binchotan charcoal can effectively reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses. This truly green product can also work particularly well in the fridge to remove any unpleasant odours.

How can Activated Charcoal cleanse your water?

When placed in water, binchotan charcoal works to filter chlorine and heavy metals as well as provide pH balance. Binchotan charcoal naturally alkalises your water and can even raise the pH levels up to 8.5 (this depends on your water supply). It’s also effective at removing any unpleasant tastes from your regular tap water! While using charcoal to filter our water is a recent phenomenon here in Australia, in Japan binchotan has been used as an eco-friendly water filter for the last 10-15 years!
